FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

      Mrs. Eddy saw the need to answer questions concerning Christian Science, this is why she included the chapter "Some Objections Answered" in her textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures - you'll find it very interesting reading....

Is Christian Science a cult? No. We do not worship any dulia or hyperdulia nor do we worship Christ Jesus or Mrs. Eddy. Christian Scientists worship one God, good, and do not believe that an intermediary is necessary to one's relationship with God. Christian Science is void of religious rituals believing that all rites and rituals take on a higher sense when practiced daily, such as baptism, communion, etc. Christian Science is unorthodox in the sense that orthodox theology is put aside for true theology - the theology of Christ Jesus as found in the Bible. But, it is not spurious, rather it defines Christ Jesus' healing method - a proven method. It is based on Christ Jesus teachings.

Is Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures a Bible to you? No. We use the Bible in all of our services as well as use it in our daily study of the Scriptures. Nothing could replace the Bible.  Science and Health began as notes taken from the Bible during Mrs. Eddy in-depth study of the Scriptures after she was healed by reading the Bible. Her notes developed into this book as an explanation or elucidation of the Scriptures. It is a key to the Scriptures because it unlocks the mysteries of the Scriptures and elucidates how Christ Jesus healed. The two books are used side-by-side in our services and study because one helps explain the other.

I've heard it said that Mrs. Eddy got Christian Science not from the Bible but from Quimby, a doctor she was seeing for some physical problems. Is this true? Again, no, this isn't true. Mrs. Eddy was seeing Dr. Quimby for some physical problems, but she found that he was not a medical doctor but a mesmerist. She was never permanently cured by him and left off using him as a doctor. Are you the same religion as Tom Cruise and John Travolta? No. Tom Cruise and John Travolta are Scientologists. Scientology is in no way similar to Christian Science.

Are you the ones who don't go to doctors? Yes. Christian Science teaches reliance upon God for all problems - physical, financial, relationship, etc. This doesn't mean, however, that there is any pressure towards those who are practicing Christian Science and choose to go to the doctor for treatment. Each individual has free moral agency to choose the type of treatment he would like, but, as a rule, the Christian Scientist has chosen to rely solely upon God for healing. We have found that mixing both medical treatment and Christian Science treatment leaves the patient worse off because he is giving his trust to two opposite forms of healing. Success comes with full reliance on Christian Science with an effort to deepen one's understanding of their relationship with God, good.
